It is identical with ISO 8655-32002, incorporating corrigendum December 2008. It, together with Parts 2, 4 and 5 of BS EN ISO 86552002, supersedes BS 7653-21993 which is withdrawn. The start and finish of text introduced or altered by corrigendum is indicated in the text by tags. Text altered by ISO corrigendum December 2008 is indicated in the text by ˆ‰. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted by Technical Committee LBI/36, Laboratory glassware and related apparatus, to Subcommittee LBI/36/1, General and volumetric, glass and plastics apparatus. Thepistoncanbeoperatedmanually,electrically,pneumaticallyorhydraulically.Thevolumedeliveredcanbe indicatedmechanicallyorbyelectronicmeans.Thedrive,thepistonandthecylindercanbeoneunit,ormodularto permittheuseofdifferentpistonsandcylinderschangeoverunitswiththesamedrive. Priortodelivery,thepistonsystemischargedbyaspirationofliquidfromareservoir.Afterairbubblefreefillingofthe system,movementofthepistoninonedirectiondispensestheliquidwhosevolumeistobemeasured;movementin theotherdirectionrechargesthesystemfromthereservoirseeFigure 1. Pistonburettesmayormaynotbeequippedwithvalvesormayhaveseveralpiston/cylindersystemswhichdispense continuously. 5 Adjustment 5.1 Apistonburetteshallbeadjustedbyitsmanufacturerforthedeliveryofitsvolumeandforthestandard referencetemperatureof ,usinggrade 3waterasdefinedinISO 3696. 5.2 Ifpistonburettesaredesignedtohavetheirfactorypresetadjustmentalteredbytheuser,thedesignshall preventunintentionalreadjustment.Iftheuserreadjuststhepistonburette,itshallbeclearlyandunequivocally indicatedontheoutsideofthepistonburettethatreadjustmenthasbeeneffected,forexamplebymeansofamark, abrokenseal,oralabelaffixedbytheuser. 5.3 Typetestingoftheadjustmentshallsatisfytheperformancerequirementsspecifiedinclause 6whenthe buretteistestedinaccordancewithISO 86556. 6 Metrologicalperformancerequirements TheconformitytesttypeevaluationspecifiedinISO 86556evaluatesthetotalsystemofthepistonburette consistingofthedriveand,ifapplicable,thechangeoverunitseeclause 4.Theconformitytestshallbecarriedout inaccordancewithISO 86556by thesupplierpriortotheissuanceofasuppliersdeclarationofconformityoracalibrationcertificate,or atesthouseorotherauthorizedbodypriortotheissuanceofacertificateofconformity. Forconformitytests,themaximumpermissibleerrorsofTables 1and2shallapply. Ifsupplierdeclarationsofconformityorcalibrationcertificatesareissuedforchangeoverunits,thesuppliershall specifythecombinationofdriveandchangeoverunittowhichthedeclarationofconformityapplies.
